It’s official! Lizzo’s new show ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’ is the confidence-booster all women need to see. The reality dance competition, which aired on March 25 on Amazon Prime Video, is more than just your average competition show. Singing sensation and superstar Lizzo is on the hunt for mega-talented, full-figured dancers to be a part of her tight-knit “Big Grrrls” dance crew. The select few who have what it takes (endurance, energy, flexibility, star quality, and so much more) will dance with Lizzo and her other six Big Grrrls at the music festival Bonnaroo and have the opportunity to go on her 2022 tour.
“Girls that look like me simply don’t get representation,” says Lizzo in the opening credit. “So, time to pull up my sleeves and find ‘em myself.” Lizzo is hands-on throughout the process (in addition to help from some of her own Big Grrrl dancers, choreographers like Tanisha Scott, and series director Nneka Onuorah), sharing her vision, expertise, and overall wisdom with the auditioning girls and viewers at home.
The show follows ten of the original thirteen girls—Charity Holloway, Kiara Mooring, Moesha Perez, Ashley Williams, Arianna Davis, Isabel Jones, Jasmine Morrison, Asia Banks, Jayla Sullivan, and Sydney Bell—as they go through their three-week self-love journey. And the show truly is a self-love journey, reminding viewers of the power of growth, representation, and self-compassion.
All of the women are celebrated for their unique experiences, background, and size. “I want us to celebrate these women for the journey that they’ve had to this point, ‘cause they’ve all had journeys,” says Lizzo. “I want them to let go of everything and every person that’s standing in their way, even if it’s themselves.”
It’s a must-see show for plus-sized women who have struggled with body confidence and finding their place in a world that wants to shut them out. But really, it’s a must-watch for any woman or person that’s struggled with self-love and body confidence. Throughout the show, Lizzo and the other girls are open about their journeys, backlashes, and challenges they’ve gone through just to feel comfortable in their own skin. It’s heartfelt, encouraging, and a gentle reminder that you’re not alone.
Lizzo’s ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’ is full of energy, compassion, and sisterhood—and honestly, every moment is fun to watch. It’s definitely a show you can binge in a day or over the weekend (it’s that good). As Lizzo says: “Big girls are doing it honey!”
