Throughout the year we feature established and aspiring plus size models on our virtual cover.   Our January/February 2018 cover model is April Shari.  Keep reading as April talks to about her personal style, her opinion on the use of the word “plus” and her goals for 2018.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is fun, edgy and colorful at times.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I still can place one of my legs behind my head but I have to really stretch first.

What scares you the most?

Centipedes and drunk drivers scare me the most.

When did you take an interest in modeling?

I’d first started being interested in modeling at the age 16.  I had a really strict mother that was caught up in some of the negative stereotypes about the industry and wouldn’t allow me to pursue modeling at the time.  I decided to try it again when I was around 25 years old for a local plus fashion show that one of my cousins invited me to participate in with her. From there it sparked a lost love and I never looked back.

Who inspires you when it comes to plus size fashion?

Honestly, I’m not really inspired by a particular person. I am inspired by the clothes I see, the different fashion eras, my mood for the day and I make it my own.

Why do you think plus size fashion such a popular topic?

I believe society is just more curious about the plus size woman now; we have been backed into a corner for so long. It’s funny how the World appears to be shocked and amazed by how beautiful, fabulous and talented we really are, even though we been that way for years.

When you’re not modeling, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy dancing, spending time with my family, my fur babies , photography (sometimes) and working out if I stick to it long enough LOL!

What’s on your To-do list for 2018?

  • To finish school this year successfully for my Masters degree
  • To be more fearless
  • I would like to become more intimate with bringing about positive change from my personal experiences, passion battles, curves and more through my blog Passion Battle Curves,
  • Become a more awesome wife, mother and business partner in photography with my husband Ivory Jackson at Lucivory Photography.
