Puerto Rican Rum Times in  San Juan!…

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Rums of Puerto Rico for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Whether you are destined for a tropical vacation this summer or an island themed party with friends in your backyard, Puerto Rico is the perfect destination to inspire your plans!

If a Vacation is in the cards, consider this island Paradise. My hubby Raúl spent 18 years living in Puerto Rico (PR), and a few years ago, he took me on a tour of ‘his’ island. After visiting friends and many of the historical sites, I can attest to the fact that…

The scenery of the country is stunning…

The people warm and wonderful…

And the food and drink are sublime… (While walking in Old San Juan on a hot, summer day, we ducked in to a local establishment for one of the best mojitos I had ever had!)

Me Shortly After My Mojito

Me shortly after my 1st Mojito!

With Puerto Rico being the Rum Capital Rum Capitol, it’s easy to find a tropical libation that will have you saying, “It’s Rum Time” in no time! Having produced rum for over 450 years, it’s no wonder that they have mastered the art of this famous spirit.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the latest episode of the new web series Rum Times, “The Light Bulb.” Not only did it take me back to the beauty of the island and our visit to San Cristóbal, where this episode was shot, it had an engaging, storyline exploring the quest for electric light and historical features, including key figures such as Thomas Alva Edison and Nikola Tesla.

Are you inspired to visit this beautiful paradise and try some of the local ‘Nectar of the Gods’? Of course you are!

If you have the chance to vacation in Puerto Rico, do it! You will have the opportunity to experience the country and its vast history in ways never seen before, and a big part of this will be the first-hand experience of a time-honored drink that is at the heart and soul of this island Paradise.

If a vacation is not in the cards this summer, consider having a Puerto Rican inspired party at home!

Here are a few ideas to get things started…

1) Send out tropical themed invitations

2) Don your perfect colorful, flowered dress (or Guevara shirt for the men)

3) Put on some salsa music

4) Create your own signature cocktail using Puerto Rican Rum! Maybe create your own twist on a delicious and refreshing mojito (white rum, mint, lime, club soda), Cuba libre (rum, coke, lime), piña colada (white rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream) or planters punch (spiced rum, grenadine, pineapple juice, club soda).

5) Dish up some of the native foods of PR including, lechón asado (barbecued pig) served with ali-li-monjili (sour, garlic sauce) Arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), Sofrito shrimp, tostones (fried plantains), traditional mofongo (fried green plantains mashed together with garlic and pork rinds) and finish it off with a homemade flan (caramel pudding)!

If you decide to have your own tropical inspired house party, make sure to stock up on traditional Puerto Rican rum from the Rum Capitol. And if you cannot travel to the island this summer, please add a visit to Puerto Rico on your bucket list… you won’t be disappointed!
