Simple Pickup, a male focused dating site used the dating app Tinder to do a social experiment to show the double standard between men and women, online dating and what happens when meeting someone in person that doesn’t look like their profile photos. After seeing the videos, I have so many issues with this experiment.
When the male met the woman that didn’t resemble her profile picture, the men responded with disgust, anger and were straight up rude while the female responses (when put in similar situations) were friendly. How is this shocking?
My first issue with this experiment is the issue of the fat suit and makeup. I do not understand why every time someone decides to design a plus size Barbie or dress someone up as “plus size” it has to include double chins. Not every plus size/fat/obese person has double chins. Another issue is that it went ti extremes. The female’s photos online was that of a very thin woman and then you show up as a double chinned, breast to the ground woman. Hell, I’d be pissed too. To me she even looks aged.
Women are gentle by nature and even more forgiving, so I’m not surprised that the females showed shock but still continued with their date. This experiment is nothing but Catfishing. In the video the woman says that she put on a “little” weight, but that’s putting it mildly. Women do tend to look beyond outer appearances and get to the personality, but I think it’s unfair to try to make all men look bad.
Check out the videos for yourself.
