You read that right, for the first time Uptown Fashion Week will include fashion for teens and plus sizes. Uptown Fashion Week is a showcase for established and emerging designers who may not be able to afford the steep finances New York Fashion Week requires. Many of the designers represent Latin America and some are even local designers as well.
According to DNAinfo New York, Albania Rosario believes that fashion is for everyone. “I decided to add plus-size [designs] because I think we shouldn’t limit fashion,” shared Rosario, Founder and Executive Producer of the event.
This is just another stride in the movement to get plus size fashion accepted in the mainstream. With the average woman in the U.S. being considered plus size and the plus size fashion industry being a billion dollar industry, these types of decisions make perfect sense. It’s awesome to see so many designers and shows opening their doors to our fashion.
Uptown Fashion Week will close on this Friday, September 12th with the plus size and teen fashions showcasing. Featured plus size NYC designers include Serita Bell, Rue 114 and Big Girls United.
