One of the many things that we love about Tim Gunn is his outspokenness and how he speaks up on behalf of plus size women in fashion. The Project Runway mentor is very vocal in sharing his thoughts on the need for designing clothing for women over a size 12. With the exception of Qristyl Frazier, there has been very few (if any) contestants on Project Runway who specialize in plus size fashion, but if Tim has anything to do with that, that will change very soon.
“I would like to do a season of ‘Project Runway’ where every model is larger than a size 12,” Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter during a reality TV round table.
I wish I was a fly in the room so I could have seen the looks on everyone’s faces when he shared his thoughts. If you follow Tim, then you weren’t surprised. Years ago, Gunn was quoted saying that the plus size market is often neglected in the fashion world.
“The women who are larger than the 12, and then there are women who are petite. And most designers that I talk to have absolutely no interest in addressing either of those populations, which I find repugnant,” shared Gunn.
