Lending your influence and name to a worthy cause is one of the most selfless things that a person could do. When it comes to giving back, plus size model Christina Mendez is onto something pretty special. Earlier this year the popular model launched a workshop where 17 young girls enjoyed an afternoon with Mendez and a team of fashion industry / empowerment advocates, posing for professional pictures, walking the runway, and discussing the overall need of positive self-images.
Christina Mendez started “Pretty Young Lady Confidence Class,” a workshop geared towards girls with special needs that are encouraged to embrace their confidence and self-worth. “As a mother of an autistic school-aged male, I’ve noticed more opportunities for male students to enjoy activities and experiences, but school-aged females unfortunately have limited opportunities for activities. With statistics showing disabilities affecting males more than females I understand focus shifting towards to the larger demographic, but I wanted to spotlight and create a fun, creative, outlet for girls while teaching them the importance of empowerment, self-love, and confidence”, says Mendez.
