NiIt is great to love the skin you’re in but there are those times when we don’t feel so great about ourselves. Sometimes this feeling comes just after the holidays, when all that good food, partying and down time with the family and friends has caught up with us and we start to feel the weight gain from those holiday cookies and lack of work-outs. It is usually around January where many of us make those New Year’s Resolutions too; you know the ones to lose a few pounds or to work towards being healthier, but fall off from those goals within the first two weeks. The great thing about making changes in your lifestyle is that you don’t have to wait a whole year to begin, any day you choose can be the day that change begins. Check out my interview with Nitasha who I found on Instagram sharing her inspirational weightloss and fitness journey.

How did you get started on your healthy lifestyle journey, what motivated you?

Another Birthday ( July) was coming and I was still over weight for the past few birthdays I was always saying I’m going to lose weight before my birthday comes around and I’m going to go on a shopping spree but it just didn’t happen I didn’t believe in myself enough. This year was just different I was fed up; I thought about how unhappy I was because of my choices, I felt insecure and ashamed and realized I was the reason why I allowed myself to go that deep in my weight, but knew I was the tool to fix it. I got up one morning towards the end of June went to the gym and started on the treadmill and it just went from there and I knew I wouldn’t lose weight when my birthday came around, but it was a start and I celebrated that fact of starting my weight loss journey. What motivated me was looking at old modeling pictures; also just reminding myself every day I’m not going to accept this weight I am not going to accept this unhappiness and insecurities. I had to pray for increase in my faith to trust that as long as I keep pushing I will soon see results I had to pray for strength to keep going, but most importantly I made the decision to believe in myself enough to change.

You motivate others through your instagram posts with before and after pics and by celebrating each success through social networks, do you find that this helps to keep you motivated?

Yes it does keep me motivated I realize I relate to so many people that have the same struggle that I did and I want to be able to help in any way I can; so it keeps me pushing to show that the natural way still works and you can keep going. I also get a lot of inspiration and motivation on instagram as well.

What have you learned about yourself and your body while on this journey?

I’ve learned also while on this journey that I have more confidence, strength, happiness and appreciate life more. I am grateful to have a mind to change. I love myself more because I was able to prove myself wrong that this weight was not a part of me and was not who I am.

How different from before is your lifestyle? Do you have a strict diet and workout routine?

I care about “Me” more. I’m more concerned about my health and I’ve learned to make time to work out to continue creating a better me. No I’m not on a strict diet I don’t count calories I’m just learning to eat healthier, I measure each item that I eat in a measuring cup to watch my food intake. I still have cheat days but I watch my portions, I’m just learning not to overdo it.

We already know that confidence comes from within, but what would you say to curvy women who want to lose weight but may feel afraid to “lose their curves” or may feel like they just can’t do it; have you ever felt this way?

I used to feel like I can’t stick with it, I can’t find the motivation or the time, but I realized it was just another excuse why I wasn’t making a change for the better. I would just say if you are not happy with whom you’ve become, you are the tool to change that. Also, go at your own pace, create goals for yourself, don’t compare yourself to anyone but yourself and search for things that motivate you and build from there. It is also very good to take lots of pictures along the way and as long as you don’t give up you will still win. Just keep pushing and don’t look back except to see how far you’ve come but you have to believe in yourself and tell yourself every day that this is for you; losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle is for you!
