You have it in you, but do you believe in your worth?
One of my favorite movies is 1999s The Matrix. If you have ever seen it you know that Neo has been selected as “The One” and he has to visit the Oracle so that she would reveal some truths to him about himself and his journey. He has a lot of doubt in himself and whether or not he is in fact “The One”. One thing the oracle did that I think went right over Neo’s head was that she checked him out as if she was a doctor; looked in his eyes told him to open his mouth and she looked at his throat then said:
Oracle: Sorry, kid. You got the gift, but it looks like you’re waiting for something. ?
Neo: What? ?
Oracle: Your next life, maybe. Who knows? That’s the way these things go. ??
Oracle: Do you know what that means? [points to a banner]
Oracle: It means know thy self. I wanna tell you a little secret, being the one is just like being in love. No one needs to tell you you are in love, you just know it, through and through.
So why am I saying this to you today?
So many times we go about our daily lives knowing that we have a special gift or knowing that there is something that we really long to do BUT it seems as if we are waiting for something. For those of us that get stuck in this rut, it can be a very debilitating for one to flourish and become all that they can be.
As the banner that hung over Neo’s head read “know thyself” it is in knowing thyself that you are able to become the most confident person that you can be for without self confidence one is controlled by self-doubt and lack of self-worth. I may be getting off on a tangent here but there are so many of you who are artists at heart but have not put enough worth on your skill or craft whether it is poetry, makeup, photography, fashion design, modeling, singing, rapping, drawing, painting whatever the case may be. And, while there are those out there with enough confidence building on what they love and actually making a living out of it or receiving a form of satisfaction out of it, there are those of us who operate in fear and hide that painting or song because you haven’t yet learned to become confident in yourself and let go. Some go on to sell themselves short, allowing others to use them and build off of their gift in order to feel validated and even though there is a time to “pay your dues” and exchange work for exposure in a lot of the arts, there still comes a time when you must value yourself enough to know you are the one with your particular gift and there is NO ONE out there like you.
Today I say “You are the one!” You can do it, whatever your goal or dream is, you can make it; know your worth and keep on believing in yourself. Like the oracle said “…You got the gift but it looks like you’re waiting for something.”
