Apparently, Target thinks being plus size equates to being pregnant. It’s been brought to our attention by Jezebel that the dress in question was modeled by maternity model, but if you look a little closer, they’re labeling it as a plus size dress.
After receiving word of the error, a representative from Target issued the following statement:
We apologize for any discomfort or offense this error might have caused. As soon as we were made aware of the error, we worked to remove the image from Target.com. This error was completely unintentional and the result of an unfortunate oversight. We appreciate the error being called to our attention and will work hard to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.”
I hope this explanation is true because the thought of such a large company cutting corners on models is a bit disturbing. There are so many models waiting for their big break so if Target really wanted to hire some plus size models, here are some wonderful candidates for the job: Daily Venus Diva Cover Models.
Although the dress has been removed from the website, this isn’t the first time that Target has labeled plus size clothing incorrectly. Remember the Manatee Gray fiasco?
