Should PETA’s “Plan V” Prescription Be Viewed As Fat Shaming?

Last month we shared that emergency contraceptive pills may not work for women who weigh more than 176 pounds. This means that women who are viewed as overweight could be in danger. Now, animal rights organization PETA is using this news to get women to support their cause. In a press release, PETA shared, “Plan V will promote a vegan diet as a Plan B lifeline for overweight women.”

Below is their reasoning:

If extra pounds are thwarting a woman’s ability to use Plan B, PETA’s ‘Plan V’ could be the prescription they need,” says PETA Executive Vice President (and mother) Tracy Reiman. “Going vegan is a great way to lose weight and get healthy—and it could help women regain control over their reproductive lives.
