Plus Size Retailer Lane Bryant Collaborates With Designers Isabel & Ruben Toledo
Plus size retailer Lane Bryant is partnering with high end designing duo Isabel and Ruben Toledo for a capsule collection.
This is Lane Bryant’s first ever designer collaboration and it’s the Toledos’ first and only foray into mass fashion according to Women’s Wear Daily (WWD).
The Toledos’ are fully embracing this opportunity. Isabel Toledo shared:
We’re looking together at all product categories and nothing is being ruled out as a possibility for inclusion down the road. This is a big deal for us and we’re treating it in that manner in every way we can…
Known for dressing First Lady Michelle Obama during the 2009 Inauguration, The Toledos’ have chosen to avoid the mainstream fashion industry but they are excited to collaborate with Lane Bryant.
[We] were intellectually on board from the first moment. Their unique customer base is an inspiring and diverse audience for which we look forward to crafting new and innovative fashions, accessories and even some other categories. We also wish to introduce our vision of color, design, look and style and, with the vast manufacturing capabilities at their disposal, we know whatever we design will be made well and fit and feel marvelous. This seems so natural to Ruben and me and we cannot wait to unveil what we’re doing together.
Recently, we’ve seen an influx of plus size brands teaming up with plus size bloggers, models and designers. Just this year, plus size blogger Gabi Gregg partnered with Swimsuitsforall and plus size model Ashley Graham worked with Addition Elle. In the past plus size retailer Evans has worked with fashion design couple Clements Ribeiro.
While this isn’t the first time a plus size retailer has collaborated with a high end designer, it’s a collaboration that I’m excited about.
A full collection of ready to wear, outerwear and accessories is scheduled to launch in Spring of 2014.
