Spring is in the air and I love a good mid-week cocktail party in my favorite fashion capital, NYC. And if it is accompanied by a sneak peak at a beautiful plus size clothing line such as Doncaster, I am delighted to do my showroom sashay and get myself over there straightaway!
Doncaster didn’t disappoint and my eyes were transfixed on mouthwatering melons and bright blues, neon fuschias, a gorgeous yellow/gold they are calling “marmalade” (what an exact description of the shade, too!!) My favorite rep, Sharon Kornstein, invited me to the preview and it was actually a networking event with empowerment entrepreneur, Pam Nochlin. (I met and immediately bonded with Pam at my February Fashion Diversity event at the Yotel on February 10th as her daughter is an intern working with featured curvy couture designer, Jane Suttell.) Pam and I are going to be doing several makeover events at various venues in NYC in the upcoming months. I love NYC and how we all connect right and left!! Function and Fashion, perfect together!!! The evening’s focus was on Raleigh Mayer, who calls herself the Gravitas Guru…she gave us tips on putting your “whole” package together. I learned the important statistic 55-35-10….55% of first impressions are based on outward appearance (what we wear), 35% is based on the tone and timbre of our voice (how we sound) and only 10% is based on content (what we say!) Allright then! Who cares about your opinion as long as you look great!???!!
Doncaster is marketed as a direct sales line of clothing with registered consultants inviting potential customers up to the showroom to see the newest seasonal collection, hopefully to browse, try on, order and even have alterations done in-house to ensure impeccable tailoring and fit. The consultants earn sales commissions and do very well because the line is versatile, trendy and sophisticated. Doncaster also carries petites and plus, which makes it so especially accommodating for the consultants who pride themselves on their image advice and shopping, with an attention to customer service and individual attention. It makes sense that Doncaster would provide a complete spectrum of size ranges to show their clientele. The exact same details and styles are available across the board whether you are a 2 or a size 22… Doncaster doesn’t dumb it down!
Doncaster features high quality fabrics, thoughtful details, fashion forward trends with matching accessories which coordinate perfectly together season after season. And good news! Spring and summer will be bright and beautiful, wearable, fun, eclectic and versatile, with lots of related separates which mix and match in a relaxed yet refined way. There are high contrast, bright colors in silks, weighty cottons and wrinkle free linen blends. The high contrast, bold color blocking trend continues. Florals are big again and the twist is wearing florals and stripes in an “almost looks wrong” kind of way. It’s actually called mix and (un)match. Textured jackets are back but these can be worked with matching skirts for a formal fee, or paired with jeans for a more casual feel. Daytime shine continues, too. Bling in the boardroom is a good thing! New takes on nautical means navy, navy, and more navy. This is a newer navy shade with a brightness to it whereas last year’s blues were muted with gray undertones. This season’s navies are riveting and work with a pop of red, florals or even bright neon sorbets. You and the consultant can go crazy with the mix and match capabilities and spend hours creating combinations which perfectly suit your mood and lifestyle. I use these pieces as investment classics which I buy and wear season after season. I have my eye on a water repellant white trench which is so gorgeous. When the skies cloud up and April showers come our way, when its gloomy I’m gonna get GLAM!!
The Doncaster line is truly inspired, lots of mileage in these pieces as the wardrobe wisdom is apparent in the collections which satisfy the need for polished and practical, well-crafted and tailored looks which can take you anywhere for this season and beyond. Check out the line on www.doncaster.com and in the SHOP area scroll down to Women’s. Don’t forget to check out the Style News, I love the layout and fresh look of the site.
