I find it quite disturbing that there are so many people in the plus community that share images and sayings like “Real men like meat, Bones are for dogs.” I understand that they’re trying to motivate one another but we as a community constantly call foul when we are referred to as anything derogatory. Isn’t calling skinny women bones and qualifying them as only worthy of dogs derogatory also?
Our pride should not come from the shaming of others. We are being hypocrites when we do so. We should either be uplifting plus size women with message of embracing our curves or uplifting all women, but to degrade a smaller woman is not cool at all.
Some may say, “it’s just a joke.” But how many times have comedians and others used that to brush off the fact that they have offended an entire community. Being self-conscious and body conscious isn’t just an issue in the plus size community, it’s an issue with all women. If there is somebody for everybody then there is someone for thin women as well.
Why are we qualifying someone’s value or worth to what their shape and body size is? We are constantly called lazy, sloppy, one hamburger away from a stroke, etc. But our size does not dictate our worth. We are beautiful, strong, determined, educated, loyal, caring, etc.
So before you post that next picture examine it and see if it is quantifying an entire group of people as something unworthy of human affection.
