It’s March. Another winter is almost in the bag. We are growing anxious for the warm weather and light weight clothing of brighter days. I want to wear my sunglasses and leather jacket, instead of a hat and wool overcoat. March is one of those transitional months when our thoughts turn to what’s next. The retail stores are stocked with what’s coming and going: colorful new collections trickling in the door and over-flowing clearance racks on the sales floor. What we see are bright color sets coordinated to help us snap out of the winter blues. It really is a fantastic time to score some great deals on the pieces you need to build your wardrobe. I love the clearance racks at Ashley Stewart and Bloomingdales for jackets, dresses, and sweaters oh my.
I like to take this time to refresh with new accessories to carry me into spring. The season’s new IT bags are structured, graphic and bold enough to help you finish an old look in a fresh new way. You may not have to look any further than your own closet for inspiration. Spring cleaning is not just about getting rid of stuff you haven’t worn, I use it as a time to shop my closet for hidden gems that need to be put into “rotation.”
I love it when I find something once considered too special to wear more often, hiding in the back of my closet. “Why haven’t I worn this more? It’s Faaa-bulous!” and BOOM I get a refreshing that will carry me stylishly through the dark days and impatient weather of March. A good example of that is my vintage red bag by Lancel Paris. I bought it over 15 years ago at Le Printemp department store in Paris. It nicely fits the criteria – big, structured and a wonderful shade of red.
Here’s a travel tip: If you can’t find clothing in your size, don’t let it steal your joy. Amazing accessories are a curvy woman’s style solution. Buy something beautifully and luxuriously made because you deserve the very best! I spent a pretty penny for that red bag and each time I carry it, I am reminded of Paris and have to fight off all the girls who covet my bag. Lol.
Style doesn’t have to cost a fortune
Consider this trendy graffiti print Proenza Schouler leather bag. It has color, print and the size to perk up any outfit. Purseblog.com has it listed at $2375. Yikes! The blog has the cutest slideshows of celebrities carrying fabulous designer bags, like “The many bags of Kerry Washington” of ABC’s hit show Scandal.
If the Hefty price tag is too heavy to handle? I found these very cute and more sensibly priced bags at Target.com. These floral tote bags by Merona are fun and flirty alternatives with color, structure and perky prints priced under $35.
High step it into March with the hyper-graphic, colorful, studded look of spring. Jump right in don’t be shy. You’ve got this style thing in the bag.
