The goal of LPSFW is to enhance, educate, empower and support the UK plus-size industry by connecting the dots between the retailers, designers and consumers.
The event takes place February 15-16, 2013 and it will be the first time local and international designers, speakers, models and retailers will have the chance to showcase collections for plus sized women.
LPSFW is one of many plus size fashion weeks that we’ve seen in recent years starting with Full Figured Fashion Week™ in New York City. Other plus size fashion weeks include the Caribbean Plus Size Fashion Week in Trinidad and Curves Rock Fashion Weekend in Baltimore, MD.
Each event serves a different purpose unique to their respective events but the common theme is fashion and plus size women.
Contrary to what the naysayers say, promoting plus size fashion does not encourage obesity. With over 50% of the women in the U.S. and the U.K. being considered plus size, ignoring the plus size consumer not only sends the wrong message to those with spending power but it sets out to solidify stereotypes related to plus size fashion. Excluding plus size women from mainstream fashion is a subliminal smack in the face that has dangerous implications as it leads plus size girls down a road filled with self doubt as they question their place in the wonderful world of fashion and in society as a whole.
Bottom line: there is a place for plus size fashion on and off the runway and events like LPSFW set out to prove just that.
