As Michael Kors celebrates his thirtieth year in fashion with his Fall 2011 collection, I thought it appropriate that we give a shout out and applaud his efforts in providing the same trendy, cutting edge looks for missy, petites and plus sizes across the board. Little is said about his success in believing in size democracy and making sure that EVERY woman has access to his stylish offerings no matter their size or height. So many designers only do “extended sizes” – meaning they only offer one or two sizes beyond the range within the missy size spectrum. This is a start for some designers, but those who have fully committed to 12W to 24W get my vote of heartfelt thanks and thumbs up. And he never dumbs it down whether you are 4’10” or 5’10”, waif or wide, he has the proportions and fit in check. What can we expect to see on the racks this year from ol’ MK? “This season there is the sexiness of the seventies, the athleticism of the eighties, the spareness of the nineties,” says Kors. “Celebration—that’s the word. A celebration of everything I love: glamour, skin tones and makeup colors, and the body!” And he is emphasizing the legs this year. The thing is, how do you do leggy in the fall?” His solution: long, sinuous dresses slashed open, with a flash of pants underneath. The layering idea is crucial here, with a mix of alpaca ponchos, pajama pants, and many, many variations on the sweater. And, says Kors, he is feeling “matchy-matchy. Everything goes with everything in his collection. Even the buttons are dyed the same color. I don’t think I’ve used a red button since 1984.”
I shopped the trends with my favorite model of the moment, Kalli Fraize. A long haired beauty from Newfoundland who has the eyes of Linda Evangelista, one of my favorite faces in the 90s. We decided to go ALL MICHAEL in an homage to the Kurvaceous Kors collection. I love the neon with neutral trend. Love the python snake trend and the ladylike dressing with clean lines and minimal detail. See for yourself and make sure you have an MK in your wardrobe this fall. You’ll find it infinitely flattering and infinitely functional whether desk to dinner or sporty to spiffy. Michael Kors has captured the look the modern woman loves and we love him for it! All you full figured fashionistas need to give him a resounding accolade and especially acknowledge and support his designs seeing as he has been perfecting his craft for 30 years!! It shows MK – you are pure perfection! And congrats on your marriage. So much to celebrate…Many more years in the business of making woman look beautiful, polished and put together! Long may the Kors banner wave!!
