Family gets most of the attention during the Thanksgiving season, but with friends playing a more central role in our lives than ever before, it’s important to create rituals and moments that show our “chosen family” how appreciative we are to have them in our lives.
Shasta Nelson, M.Div., the founder of GirlFriendCircles.com and a Life Coach for transitions identifies three affordable and super meaningful ways to show gratitude to your friends.
Three Ways to Show Gratitude to your Friends this Thanksgiving
Throw a GirlFriend Gratitude Dinner Party! Invite only the number of women that fit around your kitchen table and plan a warm & comforting meal as a gift to your friends. Even better if they don’t all know each other! After sitting down to the dinner, start by introducing each friend by telling everyone what you love about her and thank her for coming. Enjoy a rich evening filled with laughter, authentic conversation and joy.
Send Thanksgiving Cards: Christmas cards feel obligatory and you know that a hundred of them were sent out, so why not choose 5-7 friends and surprise them with a card that just says “This Thanksgiving I am thankful for you.” Write a note to them telling them what you appreciate about their friendship and wish them the very best over the holiday season!
Make a “Thankful for You” Box: Pick your 2-3 closest friends and make them each a little “Thankful for You” box. Start by writing down 25 things you admire about them. Then, cut them up separately and put them in a little box or jar. Include directions that when the holidays feel stressful, they are to pull out one piece of a paper to remind them that you are thinking of them.
