London fashion week will feature one of the most diverse set of models on any catwalk ever. Models include an 81 year woman known for her flowing grey hair to a curvy size 14 model.
In an effort to remove stereotypical ideals from the catwalk, campaigning group, All Walks Beyond the Catwalk commissioned photographer, Rankin to photograph a group of hand-picked models. The models will be dressed by household names in the fashion business, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Betty Jackson, Matthew Williamson and Alice Temperley.
The campaign united big names who are in support of featuring more diverse models on the catwalk.
Vivienne Westwood, 70 next year, commented that she is not interested in ideal beauty. Instead, she likes a woman who makes an effort to show off her best assets. Several plus-size models were photographed for the campaign but campaigners highlighted that the absence of woman from different backgrounds continues to be an issue on the British catwalk not just age and size.
All Walks Beyond The Catwalk is a much needed campaign which celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of all women. The project urges the fashion industry to stand up and take responsibility of their models and the messages they send when alienating models who are not beautiful in the traditional sense.
