It’s always good to find a fitness trend that you enjoy doing. If you enjoy dancing- then dance. If working out to Exercise TV (which is a great workout) then use that method. It’s really up to you but American Council of Exercise wants to help you out with their list of top exercising trends for 2010.
- Exergaming, with programs like Wii Fit and EA Sports Active. Both of these have recently come out with upgrades, and a new game called Your Shape is on my radar. Instead of remotes or other controllers, it uses a camera to track your movements and display them onscreen with feedback.
- Specialty exercise classes such as ethnic dance, hula-hooping, and Zumba “will remain popular,” says ACE. (I’d love to know what will emerge next with these specialty classes–will it be fly-fishing or glassblowing or some rare martial art?)
- Functional training workouts are the flip side of the unique classes; functional training is back-to-basics fitness that strengthens your whole body for both sports and daily life.
- Fitness training tools: “The use of tracking and online training and scheduling tools will increase in the coming year with more people looking to better gauge their progress by accessing and monitoring details of their fitness programs,” ACE reports.
